9/29/17 Fourth Grade Blog

9/29/17

Dear Fourth Grade Families,
Despite the heat, we have had a wonderful week! Here is what we have been doing...

Reading:  We are practicing note taking and comparing characters with the book, Ruby Holler.  Students are VERY engaged in this text!  We encourage you to ask your student about what is happening in the story.

Writing:  We spent the week learning strategies to make our Personal History Cards better through editing and revising.  Yesterday, we started our final copies!  When finished, students will present and they will be displayed in our hall.

High/Low

High- lessons are starting for instruments
High- I start lessons on Tuesday
Low- It’s kinda cold out

Low- We are done with the ropes course
Low- We are finished the low ropes course
High- We are doing our Personal History Cards and drawing is my favorite!  Low ropes course too.
High- I got my clarinet
Low- I missed the last day of the ropes course
High- It’s the last day of the ropes course
High- It’s been really good at recess, I filled my sticker chart, and we got a new thing at PE
Low- we had to write a lot of stuff on our Personal History Cards
High- I finished the writing yesterday
Low- Six people couldn’t finish the seesaw at the ropes course
High- I have five dollars on my sticker chart
Low- we are done with the ropes course
High- I might be getting my instrument today
Low- I didn’t get it sooner
High- I got a clarinet from my cousin and have been playing on it.  I presented at school wide morning meeting and my mother, father, and grandmother were there.
Low- we are done with the ropes course

Low- it’s been cold
High- we got to go on the teeter totter

High- I’m getting my saxophone next week

Dear Families,
What a HOT week we have had!  Despite the heat, students have kept positive attitudes and have stayed focused.  Here is what we have been doing:

Writing:  Students are continuing to write entries in their writer's notebooks!  We learned how we can 'Lift a line' in order to create a new entry!  We are so impressed with their enthusiasm for writing!

Reading:  We are into the routine of our reader's workshop!  Students are selecting books, responding  by demonstrating their comprehension, and conferencing with a teacher.

9/22/17 Fourth Grade

Dear Fourth Grade Families,

We have had a wonderful week of learning!  Here is what we have been doing:

Reading:  We have started a new read aloud, Ruby Holler.  We will be using this book to practice organizing our thinking, comparing and contrasting characters, as well as using evidence from the text to support our thinking.

Writing:  We went on a capitalization hunt in our independent reading books to determine the rule for when you need to capitalize a letter.  We then went through our Personal History Cards to edit them for capitalization errors.  Next week we will work on revising the sentences we wrote for our cards.

High- I couldn’t do the ropes course on Tuesday
Low- I got hurt on the ropes course

Dear Families,
We have had a very productive week!  Here's what we have been doing:

Reading:  Our students have selected 'Just Right' books and are building their reading stamina!  We are exploring our library during read aloud by reading the first chapter of popular series!

Writing:  We are in the gathering ideas stage of writing!  We are filling up our heart maps and idea banks using the strategy of gathering ideas from other authors.

Word Study:  We have completed our fall assessments in word study and are currently reviewing word types, syllable types, and grammar.

Dear Families,
What a week!  We were so impressed with our third graders at the Tunbridge Fair!  They were respectful, responsible, safe, learners!  They asked really thoughtful and insightful questions and most importantly, had a lot of fun!  Thank you chaperones for all of your help.  These days would not be possible without your help and support!  Here's what we have been doing:

Reading:  We read about the Tunbridge Fair and compeleted a project about items used in the past versus what we use now!  We started getting into our classroom library as well!

Writing:  We launched writer's workshop!  We learned about the writer's notebook and started personalizing it.  If your child has pictures, stickers, tickets, etc. from home that they want to add they are encouraged to bring them in!

Dear Families,
We have had a busy week this week!  Here's what we have been doing...

Reading:  We finished our read aloud, Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing!  Students really enjoyed the book and did a great job identifying the strong emotions that the characters felt as well as backing it up with evidence from the text.  At the end we identified the main idea and theme of the book!

Writing: We worked on identifying and using sensory details in our writing.  We will be moving into improving our Personal History Project by revising and editing them.

PLEASE make sure your child has their completed drafts of the project in!
