3/28/19 Third Grade

Dear Families,
It's hard to believe that this is the last week in March!  This is a busy time of year and we have been very productive.  Here's what we have been doing:

Reading:  We are focusing on reading poetry and inferring the meaning of the author's words.  We are also looking for strategies the poets use when writing.

Writing: We have been learning lots of poetry forms!  Students are doing an amazing being creative with their writing.  We will be turning their poems into a class book for each student to take home.  Remember to mark your calendars for our annual Mother's Day Poetry Breakfast on May 9th from 8-8:40.

High- Mrs T got to be the cursive teacher yesterday
Low- Ms. F wasn’t there yesterday
High- It’s getting warm, learning upper-case letters
Low- Ms.F wasn’t here

High- my mom had a baby today
Low- I can’t see her until this afternoon
High- the weather is getting better, I go with my mentor today
Low- Ms. Franklin wasn’t here
High- Ms. Franklin’s back, it’s warm
High- I am going to join Unified Sports Bocce team
Low- I have to get the permission slip
High- It’s getting warmer, we are done with all the lower case letters
Low- Ms.F wasn’t here yesterday
High- it’s been warm out
High- We are ok
Low- the bathroom stall broke, I fell outside
High- All done with lowercase letters
Low- I didn’t do Girls on the RUn
High- Girls on the Run today
Low- Ms. F being gone
High- we are going on to uppercase letters
Low- ending lowercase letters
High- Soon we will be able to make our names, it’s warming up, the snow is going away
Low- It’s icy in the morning
High- in Nature Art we are doing a presentation
Low- Ms. F was gone
High- almost everyone can make their names, Ms. F is back!
Low- Ms. F was gone
High- I’m back!
Low- not doing read aloud
High- Reading all the poems that you are writing

3/21/19 Third Grade

Dear Families,
Happy Spring!  We have been hard at work this week.  Here is an update:

Writing:  We have started our poetry unit!  Students have learned three new poetry forms and have been learning tools poets use in their writing.  Remember to mark your calendars for our annual Mother's Day Poetry Breakfast that will happen on 5/9 from 8-8:40. More details will follow.

Reading: We are continuing tracking character changes and supporting them with evidence.  We are also focusing on strategies for reading and comprehending poetry.

3/14/19 Third Grade

Dear Families,
We have had great week!  We want to wish the best of luck to the varsity boys basketball team as they vie for a spot in the championship game tonight!   Here's what we have been up to:

Reading:  We are focusing on how characters change over time.  We have started reading, The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane. 

Writing:  We are starting our poetry unit!  This will be a month long celebration of reading and writing poetry.  We will end our unit with our annual, Mother's Day Poetry Breakfast!  Mark your calendars, this year's poetry breakfast will be on May 9th from 8-8:45 am!

High- we got to tap maple trees in elective
