Dear Families,
We have had a wonderful week before vacation!  Students have been focused learners and truly exemplifying the Blue Devil Way...we are so impressed!  Here's what we have been doing:

Writing: Students have been working hard on their opinion writing pieces.  We are now ready to type up our final drafts!

Reading:  We finished, Because of Winn Dixie and spent the week watching the movie and comparing the two.  Students have done a wonderful job analyzing characters and thinking about the theme of the text.

High/Low

High- we watched Because of Winn Dixie, we had outdoor recess

High- we watched Because of Winn Dixie, we can use the sleds

Low- Winn Dixie was sad

High- It’s been warmer, we watched Winn Dixie

Low- I had a bad recess

High- We started cursive

Low- we finished Winn Dixie

High- We finished Winn Dixie, we started cursive

High- I am going ice skating today

Low- it’s cold and the snow is icy

High- We finished Because of Winn Dixie

Low- you weren’t here to see it, I missed the first day of it

High- it’s been really fun watching and reading Winn Dixie

Low- it’s cold outside

High- I got to have fun in the snow yesterday with a sled

Low- My sled got taken on the playground

High- I am going ice skating, I didn’t get to finish Winn Dixie

High- We played knockout this morning and I hit a far shot

Low- I kept on getting out

High- We finished Because of Winn Dixie, having outdoor recess

High- I have enjoyed watching you notice the differences between the movie and the book

High- you are rocking your opinion writing pieces!

Dear Families,
Happy Valentine's Day!  Students came in very excited to share treats and cards with their classmates and teachers.  Here is what we have been doing:

Writing:  We are moving right along with our opinion pieces!  Students have been brainstorming their 'favorites' and reasons why those things are their favorites.  They eventually will choose one complete an opinion piece that will persuade others to have the same opinion.

Reading:  Students have been using big ideas, supported by evidence from the text, to come up with the theme for a book.

2/21  Ice Skating Field Trip (for students who purchased at the school store)
2/22  All School Morning Meeting

Dear Families,
We hope you were all safe during last night's ice storm!  Hopefully, our playground will thaw out and be safe for students to use soon.  Here is what we have been doing:

Writing:  We started a new unit on opinion writing.  Students are learning how to write an opinion piece that will persuade others to have the same opinion.  To kick of this unit, we watched commercials and analyzed the persuasive techniques the advertisers used.

Reading: Students continued to learn how to analyze characters deeply as modeled in the book, Because of Winn Dixie.

High/Low

High- we started a new writing unit

High- we got to watch commercials for writing

High- watching commercials because they were funny, eating snack at the rug

Low- I wasn’t here for the commercials

High- we watched the funny commercials with the adults and babies, third grade meeting and snack

Low- the duck lost his comic book
