Dear Families,
We have a great week! Here is an update:

Reading: We have finished our nonfiction unit and are starting a unit on folktales.  Students will continue to meet in reading groups to practice the skills we are learning during read aloud.

Writing:  We are starting our opinion writing unit in the coming days.  Students will be learning how to clearly state their opinion and back it up with evidence.

Dear Families,

We hope you have had a great week. Here is an update:

Reading: We continued to study non fiction texts and text features. Students are working in reading groups to practice the skills we are learning in reader's workshop.

Writing: We have finished our descriptive shoe pieces! They are currently on display outside of our classroom. We were so impressed with how students used the strategies they learned to make their writing more descriptive.

Dear Families,
We have had a wonderful week of learning! Here is what we have been doing:

Reading:  We have started our nonfiction reading unit!  Students are learning about text features and strategies for reading nonfiction.  They are working in reading groups to practice what we are learning through our read aloud.

Writing:  After learning qualities of descriptive writing, students are currently drafting a piece about their shoes!  We are very excited to see their completed pieces.

EXCITING NEWS:  Third graders will be participating in the Red Cross Learn to Swim program at VTC!  Students will get four weeks of swimming lessons from Red Cross professionals who will be supported by WMHS students currently training as life guards!  More information and permission slips are going home tonight!

We hope you all had a wonderful holiday season!  It's hard for us to believe that we are moving into 2020.  The stretch between January and February break is a a busy one academically for our students.  We will be starting new reading and writing units.  This week's blog is short!  Instead of high/lows we asked students to tell us the best part of their vacation...
