Dear Families,

It's hard to believe that holidays are here!  We wanted to take a moment to tell you how grateful we are that we get to work with your amazing kiddos each and every day!  We hope you all have a wonderful Christmas and we will see you in the new year!

Dear Families,

Here is what we've been up to this week:

Farm to School: Miss Kelly came in to help us make potato leek soup for all of the teachers in our school! We also made cards of gratitude for local farmers.

Humanities: Students have worked through the entire writing process with their narrative writing pieces. They have drafted, revised, completed partner revisions, and worked with Mrs. T. to do final edits! Look for those to be coming home soon.

Dear Families,

We were excited  to have a normal, full week!  We had our first Farm to School activity on Monday. Students prepared seasoned potatoes and were able to taste test!  We look forward to more Farm to School days.  Here's an update:

Humanities:  We are studying Vermont through our read aloud and other activities.  Students are creating  Vermont books.  We finished, Cave of Falling Water today and will use that to begin our narrative writing piece next week.

Dear Families,

We hope you were able to take some time yesterday to honor our nation's veterans in some way.  In the past, we have brought our fourth graders to the ceremony in town.  We have missed this tradition and hope that in the future they will bring it back.  Thank you to all of our family members who are Veterans!  Here is an update:

Humanities:  We have started our mapping unit!  Students are learning about different types of maps, their purpose,  and about map features.  We spent some time on a virtual field trip using Google Maps!

Dear Families,

The school was full of excitement and energy today as we participated in our Fall Festival! Masks certainly couldn't hide the smiles.  It was fun to see the students that chose to dress up.  Here's an update:

Humanities:

We finished up Ruby Holler today!  We are so proud of the rich conversations we had as a class about this book.  We had such a variety of students participating and sharing ideas.  We also started more book clubs this week.

In writing, we are analyzing quotation marks.  Students looked for quotes in their independent reading books, we've learned how to attribute who is speaking to the quote, and next week we will begin practicing writing dialogue.

10/22/21 Fourth Grade

 

Dear Families,

What a week! Here is what we have been up to:

Humanities:  We have completed our first mini writing project that asked students to pick a character trait they exemplified and provide evidence to support it.  Those will be coming home soon.  

In reading, we have started Book Clubs!  We currently have 2 Book Clubs up and running and will add more next week. Students are learning how to discuss what they have read with their peers.  The book clubs will be guided by the teacher until students become proficient in running them.  We are still reading, Ruby Holler.  Students are doing an amazing job having respectful, insightful conversations.

Fall Fest:  On Friday 10/29 we will be celebrating fall.  Students will be able to wear costumes but no masks, make up, or props, please.  The celebration will take place in the afternoon.

 Dear Families,

We have had a short, but busy, week!  Here is what we have been up to:

Humanities:

We have been reading, Ruby Holler and having wonderful conversations about the characters and writing style of the author.  Students are doing an amazing job commenting, questioning, and listening to their peers.  

In writing we are continuing to practice editing and revising strategies on our character trait writing pieces.  Today, students will learn how to add clip art and 'publish'.
