Dear Families,

It's amazing how quickly October has gone by!  There is a lot of excitement in the air with Halloween just around the corner.  Here is what we have been up to:

Humanities:  In writing, we have finished brainstorming possible topics for our personal narratives.  Early next week we will choose a topic and begin drafting.  In reading, we are continuing asking questions when we read in order to understand the text better.

Halloween:  Monday is our walking field trip to The Gardens for Halloween!  Students are encouraged to bring their costumes to school to change into before we go and wear sneakers for our walk.  We are so excited for this community event.

Dear Families,

We have so many exciting things going on!  Here is an update:

Humanities:  We have started reading, The War with Grandpa, and are practicing asking questions while we read.  In writing, we have wrapped up launching our writer's workshop!  We are starting our narrative writing unit today.  In word study, we are reviewing syllable types.

Halloween:  This year we are participating in a Halloween Parade at The Gardens in town.  We will walk down and enjoy a picnic lunch before parading along the grounds.  Students are encouraged to wear costumes.  Mr. Banios is asking that students not wear masks, make-up, or carry props.  We have gone through these expectations with students.

It was a productive short week!  Here is what we have been up to:

Humanities:  In writing, we have been working on adding precise words to our entries in order for readers to make pictures in their heads.  In reading, we have started Stone Fox.   Students are working on responding to their independent reading books.

Dear Families,

We are so excited for our field trip tomorrow!  The weather is not looking the best though.  Mr. Fedders will be notifying families tonight (10/6) if we are postponing.  If we do not hear from him,  we will anticipate going as planned.

Humanities:  We have been very busy!  In reading, we started Stone Fox and are focusing on deepening our comprehension by using 'comprehension checks'.  In writing, we are working on building our writing stamina by completing or adding to entries.  We have also been busy studying the works of Stephen Huneck.  Stephen Huneck founded Dog Mountain.
