 9/25/2020

Dear Families,

We hope you are enjoying this beautiful fall weather! Here is an update on what we have been doing:

Reading:  Students are learning about choosing ‘Just Right’ books.  They are working on building their reading stamina.  For read aloud we are sampling various series from our library.

Writing:  We have started our Writer’s Workshop!  Students learned about writer’s notebooks and started adding items to their heart maps.  We also started reading stories and adding connections to our idea banks.  We will spend a lot of time gathering ideas for our writing.

Science:  Starting Monday there will be change to the science classes.  Mrs. White will move from Mrs. Thompson’s class to Mr. Maloney’s class.  Ms. Jesmonth will move from Mr. Maloney to Mrs. Thompson’s class.  This was a necessary switch to alleviate scheduling issues.  Please contact Mr. Howard with any questions. Specials:  On Monday, we will rotate to new specials!  Here’s the change:

Mrs. Franklin:  Music

Mrs. Thompson: PE**

Mr. Maloney: Art

**PE takes place outside at 8:30am.  The grass is still very wet!  We are recommending students bring boots to wear or extra shoes and socks to change into after.

Chromebooks:   This week students began bringing chromebooks home each night.  We are so proud of how responsible they are with returning them the next day.  Please make sure that your child is charging them at home so they are ready to go in class!

 Dear Families,

It is hard to believe that we have been in school for almost two weeks! We are simply AMAZED by how well students are adapting to new rules and expectations.  As parents, we understand how difficult the decision to allow your child to attend in-person instruction was and we appreciate your support.  Here is our classroom update:

Humanities:  Our humanities block has been spent getting to know students, back to school read alouds, and learning classroom routines.  This week we also began learning technology skills we will need if we need to begin virtual learning. These are skills we will also use in the classroom.   Students have learned how to log on to their google accounts, how to send email, how to work their email account, and how to use the reading program Lexia.  

Specials:  Specials will be done on a rotation this year.  Each class will have the same special, everyday, for three weeks.  

This rotation is:

Franklin:  PE

Thompson: Library

Maloney: Music

Lunch:  ALL students are able to receive FREE lunch and breakfast daily!  This program has been extended from the summer to December.  We hope you will take advantage of this awesome opportunity!  Even if kids eat breakfast at home, they can order breakfast to have as a snack!

Headphones: We provided students today with a set of earbuds. A lot of students found them uncomfortable. If they have headphones at home that they want to bring in we encourage them to do so!
